On June 7th, 2023, the forest certification group was granted a certificate of sustainable forest management by GFA Certification GmbH for 4,439.56 ha of Acacia hybrid and Acacia mangium plantations according to management standards of Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS/PEFC) in Son Duong District, Tuyen Quang Province.
The group has 540 members, which are households planting Acacia plantations from 58 villages of 5 communes in Son Duong district such as Minh Thanh, Luong Thien, Hop Thanh, Khang Nhat, and Hop Hoa. The certificate is represented by Thuan Thien Forestry Cooperative.
The entire planted forest area of the households participating in the Certification Group has been planted from 2016 to 2022. Prior to joining the Forest Certification Group, the planted forests of the households were primarily exploited for peeler board, wood, and paper products.
According to Resolution No 36–NQ/TU dated June 26th , 2021 of Tuyen Quang Province on sustainable forest development in Tuyen Quang province in the period of 2021 – 2030. By 2030, the province achievement has a certificate of sustainable forest management covering around 100,000 hectares of forest. The implementation of forest management and certification according to the Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS/PEFC) will bring more opportunities and options for forest owners in Tuyen Quang Province in terms of sustainable forest management, forest certification and improvement of economic, social, and environmental efficiencies from forests.
