On August 9, 2022, the National Agriculture Extension Center in collaboration with the Quang Tri Agricultural Extension Center organized an Agricultural Extension forum on the topic: “Solutions to develop wood material areas for the wood processing industry and export” in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province.

Attending the conference were about 100 delegates from the National Agriculture Extension Center, Vietnam Administration of Forestry, Vietnammese Academy of Forest Sciences, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province, the Agricultural Extension Center of 5 provinces: Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien Hue. Mr. Hoang Van Hong, Deputy Director of National Center for Agricultural Extension, and Mr. Nguyen Phu Quoc, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Tri province, co-chaired the conference.

At the conference, the representative of the Vietnam Forest Certification Office joined the forum’s advisory board and gave a presentation on the current status of forest certification in Vietnam and solutions to develop certified plantations in large timber-supplying material areas. Among the proposed solutions, the solution to improve the capacity to mobilize the participation of agricultural extension officers at all levels in supporting the implementation of forest certification was highly appreciated and enthusiastically supported by the delegates.

In the coming time, the Vietnam Forest Certification Office will continue to develop technical guidelines and organize ToT training courses for grassroots extension staff to promote sustainable forest management activities and forest certification.
