On 23rd December, 2022, Viet Nam Association For Safe water and Environment organized a forum with the topic “Challenges and opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises in achieving the net zero emissions target”. Participating in the forum were representatives of National Assembly Committee on Science, Technology and Environment; Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment; Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; Unilever Vietnam International Company Limited; WWF; UNDP; Nagase Vietnam Co., Ltd and more than 100 enterprises.
At the forum, Dr. Vu Tan Phuong, Director of Vietnam Forest Certification Office (VFCO) gave a presentation on measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and carbon trading in forestry sector. In recent year, the forestry sector has made great achievements in terms of increasing forest cover and especially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The annual net emission of the forestry sector for the period 2010-2020 was estimated at -39.6 million tons of CO2. Participants showed interest in this topic and underlined the importance of implementing sustainable forest management, enhancing forest quality and productivity. Those measures are considered a high potential and important that are significantly contribute to achieving Vietnam’s net zero emission target by 2050. The business enterprises are currently in transition stage towards low-carbon development.
