Cooperation for promoting sustainable forest management between Vietnam and Japan

In the afternoon of October 17, 2022, at the office of the Japan Sustainable Green Ecosystem Commission (SGEC), a meeting between VFCO and SGEC took place. Attending the meeting were Mr. Tatsuya Kajiya – executive director of SGEC, Mr. Vu Tan Phuong – director of VFCO, members of SGEC and the Japan Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI). The two sides exchanged information on the national forest certification scheme and market access issues of Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises. Japanese businesses are very interested in forest products that are certified for sustainable forest management under PEFC, including wood and latex from rubber forests and woodchip plantations.

The two sides will strengthen the cooperation, sharing information to businesses participating in the supply chain of wood materials and wood products, creating the best conditions for businesses and forest owners to access the market, ensuring the use of wood and materials from forests certified for sustainable forest management under the Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme.
