On December 7, the Vietnam Forest Certification Office (VFCO) in collaboration with the National Center for Agricultural Extension and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Phu Yen province to organize a policy forum on Plantation development for sawn timbers and certification in Phu Yen province.
Attending the Seminar about 100 delegates from local authorities such as: Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Forest Protection Department, Center for Agricultural Extension of Phu Yen province; Division of Agriculture and Rural Development, Agricultural Extension Station and Forest rangers at district level including: Dong Hoa, Tay Hoa, Phu Hoa, Tuy An, Son Hoa, Dong Xuan, Song Hinh, Song Cau district and Tuy Hoa city; Forest management boards; Cooperatives alliance of Phu Yen Province; A number of wood and forest product processing enterprises; forest owners, smallholders and representative from some People’s Committees in Phu Yen province. There are some news agencies and media attend and post news about this events. Mr. Nguyen Ly Nguyen, Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Phu Yen province and Mr. Vu Tan Phuong, Director of VFCO are co-chaired the seminar.
There are some report presented in workshop regarding following topics: Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS) and implementation of forest certification in Vietnam, saw timber plantation, Forestry status in Phu Yen province and necessary to develop saw timber plantations and forest certification, linking between forest processing enterprises and forest owners to create sustainable plantation areas. At the discussion session, many delegates who are smallholders, forest rangers, agricultural extension staffs, leader of agriculture and rural development division at district level, etc. asked many questions and discuss about the effectiveness of the saw timber plantation, requirements to implement forest certification, capital and land certification solutions to support forest owners in implementing sustainable forest management and forest certification, opportunities to cooperate with businesses in the consumption of certified wood, etc. These issues have been discussed thoroughly and there are many solutions have been proposed to enhancing forest certification and sawn timber plantation in Phu Yen province in the coming time.
Agricultural extension policy forum is a regular agricultural extension communication activity managed by the National Center for Agricultural Extension. This is the first seminar about sawn timber plantation and forest certification held at the provincial level to discuss and propose solutions to promote sawn timber plantation and forest certification for a specific province. In the coming time, VFCO will continue to collaborate with the National Center for Agricultural Extension and the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development at province level across the country to organize seminars on sawn timber plantations and forest certification, in order to accelerate the implementation of sustainable forest management and forest certification nationwide, contributing to achieving the goals of Vietnam’s Forestry Development Strategy for the period of 2021-2030 and vision towards 2050.
