On September 30, 2022, in Tuyen Quang city, Tuyen Quang province, the General Department of Forestry in collaboration with the Tuyen Quang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to promote investment in wood and forest product processing in the Northern mountainous provinces. There were more than 100 delegates attending the conference. They came from the General Department of Forestry, Department of Planning (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development); Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Northern mountainous provinces (Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Hoa Binh, Lang Son, Quang Ninh,…), Vietnam Forest Certification Office (VFCO), Silviculture Research Institute (under Vietnamese Academy of Forest Sciences), Vietnam Forest Owners Association, Vietnam Timber and Forest Product Association and wood processing enterprises such as Woodlands , Hao Hung, NAFOCO, etc. and other stakeholders. Mr. Bui Chinh Nghia – Deputy Director of General Department of Forestry and Ms. Mai Thi Hoan – Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Quang province co-chaired the conference.
The conference heard presentations on: Report on the development of wood and forest products processing in the northern mountainous provinces; Report on opportunities and potentials for wood processing development in the Northern mountainous region; Report on orientation to attract investment in developing production plantations associated with wood processing in Tuyen Quang province; Report on the status of wood prodcut exporting, wood processing and linkage modeds for saw-log plantion with sustainable forest management certificaiton by Woodsland Quang Joint Stock Company; Report on the orientation of attracting investment in developing production plantations associated with wood processing in Quang Ninh province. In which, there are many outstanding issues that need to be take in to account, such as the imbalance between raw wood materials (mainly concentrated in the northern mountainous region), but there are few wood processing enterprises in this region, as well as the implementation of sustainable forest management and forest certification to ensure a sustainable source of raw materials for national wood processing and exporting wood products.
At the conference, Mr. Vu Tan Phuong – Director of VFCO have a presentation to introduce Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS). The opreation of VFCS in Vietnam is a result from the demanding of the Vietnam forestry industry, in line with the international trend, providing more options for forest owners and wood processing company and contribute to promoting linkages and investment between the wood processing industry and forest owners.
