November 1-3, 2023, in Ca Mau Province, the Ca Mau Provincial Forest Protection Department in collaboration with the Forest Science Institute of Southern Viet Nam (FSIS) and the Vietnam Forest Certification Office (VFCO) organized a training course titled “Improving the capacity of sustainable forest management” for forest owners as forestry companies, national parks, protection forest management boards, wood processing companies and armed forces in Ca Mau Province.

At the training course, Dr. Tran Thanh Cao, Deputy Director of FSIS, and representative of VFCO/PEFC Vietnam introduced: i) Sustainable forest management certification in Vietnam; ii) the Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC); and iii) VFCS/PEFC ST 1003:2019 Sustainable Forest Management Standard and how to implement it by steps.

For the knowledge and information have been provided, forest owners in Ca Mau Province will take new steps in approaching sustainable forest management certification.
