Capacity building for Cooperatives in Central region about VFCS/PEFC Sustainable Forest Management Standards

From 17–19 November 2025, in Dong Ha Ward, Quang Tri Province, VFCO in collaboration with the Sub-Department of Cooperative Economics and Quality Management of Quang Tri Province, organized a training course entitled “Guidance for Cooperatives on Organizing Production in accordance with the VFCS/PEFC Sustainable Forest Management Standard.” The workshop gathered 35 participants, including leaders and members of cooperatives operating in Quang Tri Province and Hue City.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of cooperative leaders, staffs and members in Sustainable Forest Management (SFM), enabling forest owners to proactively establish linkage models and apply the requirements of the VFCS/PEFC Sustainable Forest Management Standard in practical forest management and production. Throughout the training, participants were introduced to the core principles of SFM, an overview of the Vietnam Forest Certification System (VFCS/PEFC), key requirements of the VFCS/PEFC ST 1003:2019 SFM Standard, content and the steps to develop an SFM plan for a group certification model with the key role of cooperatives. Participants also visited a high-quality seedling nursery and a large-timber plantation SFM model at the North Central Vietnam Forestry Science Center.

Through this training activity, cooperative staff and members are expected to become a key driving force in expanding sustainable forest management practices and promoting the maintenance of forest certification in their local areas in the coming years.
