On September 11–12, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Forestry and the Forest Protection Department, in collaboration with the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), organized the Forum on “Ensuring Legal Timber for Sustainable Forestry Development in Vietnam.”
The Forum aimed to promote multi-stakeholder cooperation in ensuring the legality of timber, moving towards FLEGT licensing and meeting the requirements of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Key discussions included: sharing solutions and approaches for timber traceability and supply chain control; addressing gender issues in the forestry sector; monitoring impacts and verification in the timber value chain; reviewing the project “Support for the Implementation of the VPA/FLEGT in Vietnam”; and introducing an AI-based timber identification tool (woodID).
