Training on Enhancing Capacity to Implement the PEFC CoC Chain of Custody Standard for Wood Chip Producers in Nghe An

In the context of increasingly stringent requirements on timber traceability and legality in both domestic and international markets, from 15–18 December 2025 in Nghe An Province, Viet Nam Forest Certification Office (VFCO) organized a training course entitled “Enhancing Capacity to Implement the PEFC CoC Chain of Custody Standard for Wood Chip Producers.”

The training course was attended by 30 participants, including managers and personnel responsible for procurement, production, and certification documentation from wood chip production enterprises. The activity aimed to support enterprises in strengthening their capacity to comply with international standards on sustainable and legal management of timber supply chains and timber products.

Within the framework of the training course, participants were introduced to an overview of the Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS), standards and guidance related to Chain of Custody (CoC) and Due Diligence System (DDS), as well as new requirements of the PEFC EUDR DDS module in response to the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The training content was delivered through a combination of theory and practical experience, focusing on key aspects such as establishing a PEFC CoC/DDS management system; developing necessary procedures and forms; controlling input materials; declaring output products under Chain of Custody methods; risk assessment, internal audits, and record keeping for certification assessments.

In addition to theoretical sessions, the training course included a field visit to Biomass Fuel Viet Nam Company. During the visit, participants had the opportunity to directly observe raw material intake processes, warehouse management, mixing control, and the operation of the PEFC CoC/DDS system in actual production conditions. The field visit effectively connected training content with real production practices, helping participants better understand how PEFC requirements can be applied within their own enterprises.

Through this training course, VFCO continues to affirm its role as a focal organization supporting enterprises in accessing and implementing PEFC forest certification and chain of custody standards. This activity also contributes practically to promoting the sustainable development of Viet Nam’s wood processing industry, enhancing market access and meeting the increasingly demanding requirements of international trade
