On October 4th, 2023, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quang Ninh province coordinated with the Vietnam Forest Certification Office (VFCO) to organize the Workshop on promoting sustainable forest management, forest certification and EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) in Quang Ninh province. The workshop had the participation of over 50 delegates from departments, committees, sectors, People’s Committees at districts and forestry companies in Quang Ninh province, scientists and experts in the field of sustainable forest management and forest certification, and some wood processing enterprises.
At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tiep, Deputy Director of VFCO, presented about Vietnam Forest Certifiaction Scheme (VFCS) and PEFC; practical steps to targret forest certification; analyzing difficulties and challenges, propose solutions to promote sustainable forest management and forest certification in Quang Ninh province as well as the potential to meet EUDR requirements when applying VFCS certification.

In Quang Ninh province, there are 372,684.78 hectares of forested land with 165,213.79 hectares of planted production forests, this is a large space for implementing sustainable management and forest certification. Currently in the province there are 9,488 hectares of certified forests (100% are VFCS/PEFC). Some districts in the province have plan to target extra 23,140 hectares of forest certified in the near future. At the end of the workshop, representatives of leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, People’s Committees of districts and wood processing enterprises signed a cooperation agreement to implement sustainable forest management and forest certification according to VFCS/PEFC in the near future.
