After establishing and operating the National Sustainable Forest Management Certification System (VFCS), the application of Vietnam’s National Sustainable Forest Management Certification System has been submitted to PEFC for accreditation under PEFC regulations and requirements.

In January 2020, PEFC sent an international independent assessment team, which is Australia’s ITS Global, to Vietnam to evaluate Vietnam’s national sustainable forest management certification system. Results at the annual meeting of the PEFC General Assembly on 11/11/2020 discussed and voted to approve Vietnam’s VFCS system by the regulations and requirements of PEFC. Therefore, Vietnam’s VFCS system was officially endorsed by PEFC on October 29, 2020. 

That PEFC recognized Vietnam as the National Sustainable Forest Management Certification System is of significant importance in implementing sustainable forest management under the Forest Management Standards. Vietnam’s sustainability now is in line with international practices, opening up opportunities for Vietnam’s forestry products to reach the world market and be spread over 50 countries, contributing to increasing prices for the forestry industry. After the VFCS System is recognized, the Sustainable Forest Management Certification Office will coordinate with PEFC to complete the instructions and accreditation procedures to use the PEFC logo for the assessed forest area and issue sustainable forest management certificates under the VFCS National Forest Certification System.
